Myrtle Beach with Kids: My Go-To Family Vacation Spot

As a travel planner and mom of two energetic boys, Myrtle Beach has become one of our favorite family vacation destinations. We’ve been three times, and each trip is a great mix of beach time, exciting attractions, and just enough downtime to keep everyone happy (and well-rested). If you're thinking about heading there with your crew, here’s what I personally recommend based on what’s worked for our family.

Where We Stay: Dunes Village Resort

When we go to Myrtle Beach, we love staying at Dunes Village Resort. It’s one of the most family-friendly options out there, and it checks all the boxes for convenience and fun:

  1. Suites with full kitchens and in-room washer/dryers (perfect for keeping up with laundry on longer trips)

2. Multiple pools and an indoor water park with slides, a lazy river, and splash areas—great for rainy days or when the beach is too hot

3. The location is oceanfront and central, so it’s easy to get to all the main attractions while still enjoying some quiet beach time.

What We Like to Do

Broadway at the Beach - This is always one of our biggest stops. It’s packed with activities the kids love—and honestly, there’s something for everyone.

  1. WonderWorks: The upside-down building is full of interactive exhibits. My boys love the ropes course, astronaut simulators, and the bubble lab. It’s a great way to spend a few hours indoors.

  2. Ripley’s Aquarium: One of the best aquariums we’ve visited. The shark tunnel and stingray touch tank are always highlights for us.

  3. Pavilion Park Amusement Rides: Broadway has two ride areas—Pavilion Park East and West—with everything from toddler-friendly rides to small coasters. It's an easy and exciting way to break up time walking around Broadway at the Beach.

Fun Dinner Idea - Medieval Times

This dinner show is such a fun family experience. You get a full meal (eaten with your hands, which my boys think is pretty fun), and the knights, sword fighting, and horses keep the whole crowd entertained-so I don’t have to worry about activities for once! We’ve done it more than once and it’s always a hit.

One of our TOP Must Dos for Every Trip - Mini Golf

Myrtle Beach is basically the mini golf capital of the U.S., and we always make time for a course or two.

  1. Captain Hook’s Adventure Golf: A fun Neverland-themed course with pirate ships and caves—great for younger kids or anyone who loves a good theme.

2. Atlanticus Minotaur Golf: A bit more challenging and super imaginative, with waterfalls and mythology vibes.

My Tips for a Smooth Trip

  1. Stay nearby: Staying somewhere like Dunes Village puts you close to everything without sacrificing beach access or kid-friendly downtime. Being able to take an elevator up to the room if someone needs a break in the middle of the day is a GAME CHANGER! Take about convenient 🤩

  2. Alternate big and small days: We usually do one big outing (like Broadway or Medieval Times) and one lighter day (mini golf or beach or just pool and waterpark all day) to keep everyone from burning out.

  3. Book ahead: Popular spots like Ripley’s and Medieval Times can sell out during school breaks or busy times during the summer.

  4. Let the kids help plan: The boys enjoy having a say in crafts, activities and places to go so everyday I try to take what they want into consideration for at least one of the activities on the agenda—this helps them stay excited and feel involved.

Myrtle Beach is always an easy yes for us. Whether we’re flying down slides at the water park, walking through shark tunnels, or soaking up the sun, it’s the kind of trip that creates real family memories—without the stress.
